The Pink Lady® Drakenstein Canoe Race is an exciting two day canoe marathon. This race is on the most exhilarating and scenic parts of the Berg River and will be the most fun you could have in a two-day event in the Western Cape. It is a K1 race but K2's and K3's are welcome. The race is rated as a B grade by Canoeing South Africa, opening the race to most paddlers in South Africa.

The two-day race covers 53km on the beautiful Berg River, as well as a 4km fun race on Saturday 23 June. Spectators and paddlers will be treated to a fun, enjoyable family day at the Berg River Brewery to finish off the event at the Brewery on both evenings.

This year the Pink Lady will also host the WCCU K1 river championships.

Day 1: 30km

Race Starts at Gouda Bridge at 10:00 and ends at Bridgetown

Day 2: 23km

Race starts at Paarl Canoe Club at 08:30 and ends at Skooltjie

Afterparty at the Bergriver Brewery in Paarl - both evenings
Support the Afterparty at the Brewery on Saturday 23 & Sunday 24 June 2017 from 11:00 – 18:00. DJ Music and refreshments and food for sale for the spectators. Entry Free.

Safety information and regulations:

Whenever the safety or health of participants is endangered, the organizers reserve the right, to enforce the withdrawal of any number of participants.

The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any participants, penalise participants with a time penalty or apply appropriate disciplinary action against any competitor in breach of the canoe race rules or who in any way tries to improve his position in a dishonest way.

The organizers have the right to amend or add to the rules at any stage. No change or amendments to the rules are allowed unless approved by the chief official. The organizers reserve the right of entry. Unless sound reasons can be given, a canoeist who disobeys any rules – whether they be specified in the brochure, on the entry form, pre-race note or given at the pre-race meeting – will be disqualified. Any appeal must be lodged in writing within one hour of the competitor completing the specific leg, to a member of the Jury. R50 must accompany the protest. CSA rules will apply, accept when in contradiction with the race rules, in which case the race rules apply.

Only paddlers 15 years or older(in the year that you turn 15) are allowed to compete in a K1. All participants must be registered with the WCCU to enter this race.

10 liters of buoyancy (in front AND in back) is imperative and will be checked. Beach balls and bottles ONLY permissible if secured to the boat.

DECALS – Valid CSA registration numbers must be placed on each side of the front deck of the boat. Pink Lady® Drakenstein Canoe Race decals must be placed on the front deck of the boatAny other decals must be placed on the rear deck or on the sides behind the front point of the cockpit. Batch stickers must be placed on the front right hand deck and be clearly visible.

Paddles may be exchanged. No canoes replaced. No outside assistance of any kind is allowed, except in an emergency.

The winner is the competitor completing the race in the shortest total time. The Senior and Junior U/18 Classes are the only open classes. Cash prizes for paddlers not present will be donated to Canoe Development. No substitutes allowed to collect. Prize-giving will be at Berg River Breweries on both Saturday and Sunday after the race.

Lifesavers/ sweeps will be placed at most tricky places to assist paddlers.

No refunds will be processed due to event cancellation.

INDEMNITY: I/We, the undersigned, hereby declare that I/We am/are sufficiently competent to take part in the Pink Lady® Drakenstein Canoe Race, assume all risks of participation in the Pink Lady® Drakenstein Canoe Race, release and discharge the organisers and all their assistants as well as the sponsors from all claims arising for loss, damage, injury or death I/we may suffer arising from my/our participation in the race, and agree to abide by all the race and CSA rules, which I/we have read and understood. I further certify that the information above is correct. Signature of parent or guardian in the case of persons under 21 years old
