Join the third annual African Centurion Walk on the world-renowned Robben Island from 20 to 21 October 2018. 

This 2018 edition of the African Centurion is unique because it is the last edition on this UNESCO heritage site and the emphasis lies on celebrating the 100 years of Nelson Mandela. 

As with previous years, you’ll join other walkers from across the globe as they walk 100 miles in twenty-four hours on the historical South African landmark that is Robben Island – the infamous prison for anti-apartheid activists. You can enter as a solo walker or as a team of two or four walkers.  

Go the full grueling distance by yourself and you’ll be awarded a never-to-be-repeated Centurion walker number that’ll stay yours for life.

All walkers and supporters take the ferry from the Nelson Mandela Gateway in Cape Town the morning of the 20th of October. Upon arrival on the island, all walkers receive a welcome pack and make themselves comfortable before the race starts sharp at 12pm. There will be a support village, with food and beverages and also medical assistance. Accommodation options are available upon request, email [email protected] for more information.

The race finishes at 12pm on the 21st of October. A short award ceremony will be held before embarking on the 2pm ferry back to the mainland.

Twenty-four hours of walking will take you through an incredibly rare opportunity to spend a night on the island with fellow walkers. You’ll leave knowing you were part of something truly special.

TAKE NOTE: Accommodation

 Several accommodation options are offered on the island. In comparison to previous years, these accommodation types can be booked and can be reserved for you and your team’s use only. Your entry name or team name will appear on a plaque on the beds or rooms secured for you. Please contact our project coordinator directly to secure your accommodation on [email protected]. See below the different options and rates. Single Room @ R550 per room/p.n. availability: 6 rooms Double Room @ R500 per person/p.n. availability: 6 rooms Dormitory Beds @ R360 per bed/p.n. availability: 82 beds Note: Bathrooms and showers are shared between all participants and supporters. LOCKERS for valuables: There are lockable lockers available to book with each bed at a rate of R150 per locker for the duration of the stay. Please bring your own lock with to secure this locker.
